The Aspire 5315 is a very solid piece of equipment, actually 10 pounds. This could get uncomfortable if your child needs to tote their computer to school or library often. But if not, the solidness is actually a plus, robust enough for any slight carelessness a 12 year might inflict.

And the screen is awesome- one of the better monitors I’ve seen. It’s not huge, just the standard 15.4 inches common on laptops. But the colors are vivid and they pop. Everything on the screen shows up crisp and clear, even movies, which is important with a screen of this size.
